Bolsonaro Dismisses Letter from International Investors and Announces Dinner With Trump Instead

“We expect to leave here on Monday and be back by Wednesday morning. There is a dinner that we must attend. We will be by Trump’s side, an honorable occasion. I have been talking to him often. On all sorts of issues,” said Bolsonaro.

Bolsonaro said that in his speech to the UN, he will not react to funds from investors who called in a letter for “urgent action” to contain the “devastating fires” in the Amazon.

The president once again said that, in past administrations, lands in Brazil were demarcated when a ruler would return from international events.

“Every time Brazil’s leaders went abroad in events like Osaka, Davos, they would come back here demarcating more indigenous lands, establishing national parks and rendering Brazil unviable”.

According to Bolsonaro, international pressure aims to undermine agribusiness and bring down the country’s economy.

Bolsonaro also said that “the lack of patriotism is impressive. As we now see ‘the office of hatred’. What is this?”, he asked.

The newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo published on Thursday, September 19th, that the Planalto is home to a group of advisors who have a strong influence on President Bolsonaro, known as the “office of hatred”. This ideological wing in charge of digital media distances the brothers Flávio and Carlos Bolsonaro.

Delegation

The president will travel with some of his closest ministers. Among them, the Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet, Augusto Heleno, and the Government Secretariat, Luiz Eduardo Ramos.

First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro will also be part of the entourage, in addition to Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, the president’s son and listed to take over the Brazilian embassy in Washington. Senator Nelsinho Trad will also be on the tour.

Environment Minister Ricardo Salles is already in the United States and will join the president at the UN. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo, will also be present and will meet the delegation in New York.
