RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro sanctioned on Tuesday, September 17th, Bill 3.715/19, which extends the possession of weapons on rural properties.
The measure was approved by the House of Representatives on August 21st. Bolsonaro confirmed the sanction directly from the Alvorada Palace, where he spoke on the first day of work, after a temporary leave from office to have an abdominal hernia repair surgery, which occurred on September 8th.
According to the bill approved by the Legislature, the possession of weapons is authorized over the entire extent of rural property.
The measure guarantees the owner of a farm, for example, the right to carry a firearm anywhere on his property. Until now, possession was only allowed in the perimeter of the rural property’s dwellings.
