Neymar’s Rape Accuser Najila Charged with Extortion, Procedural Fraud and Libel

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – The Civil Police of São Paulo formally charged Najila Trindade Mendes de Souza with procedural fraud, libelous statements, and extortion in the case in which the model accused the player Neymar of rape during a meeting in Paris on May 15th, 2019.

Her ex-husband, Estivens Alves, was indicted for procedural fraud and disclosure of erotic content.

The inquiries, which continue under the secrecy of Justice, were forwarded to the Court of Justice for consideration by representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary.

The arraignment comes after the conclusion of two inquiries involving Neymar that were carried out at the 11th Precinct (Santo Amaro). The charges are the outcome of the case investigated and closed at the 6th Police Precinct for the Defense of Women, under the presidency of Dr. Juliana Lopes Bussacos.

The inquiries, which continue under judicial seal, were forwarded to the Appellate Court for consideration by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary.

“Based on the evidence gathered during the investigations, the sheriff decided for the arraignment of N. and Estivens Alves her ex-partner, for the crime of procedural fraud (Penal Code Art. 347, sole paragraph). He also decided to charge Alves under Article 218-C, to disclose material with erotic content from Najila to a reporter, in exchange for its publication on the Internet,” says the note from the Secretary of Public Security.

“After the clarification of the criminal charges, and the carrying out of the respective investigations and hearings, the authority also decided to charge Najila with the crimes of libelous accusations and extortion,” says the note.

Najila’s Defense

Najila’s defense attorney, Cosme Araújo, said he finds the charges against his client strange, considering that he had recently made a request for a confrontation between Najila and her ex-husband, Estivens.

He [the defense attorney] also stated that he had not received any explanation from the sheriff in regard to his petition, and that the night of this Monday (9th), when accessing the investigation in court, he found that there was only one instance from the MP to be joined in the records that were in separate files.

Therefore, the defense did not have access to information from the case records, which is why it cannot express its opinion on the arraignments. As soon as they have access to the entire investigation, defense counsel will speak.
