TV Globo Soap Opera Cast Wears Black, Joins Protest Against Bolsonaro Government

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The cast of ‘Órfãos da Terra’ (“Orphans of the Earth”) joined the protest against the government of Jair Bolsonaro called on September 7th.

After the president urged people to take to the streets yesterday in green and yellow, a motion was started for the population to in fact wear black as a form of mourning.

"In mourning and fighting for education, for health, for the Amazon, for the freedom of our Brazil," wrote actress Alice Wegmann, who plays the villain Dalila in the plot.

Actors from Globo’s 6 PM soap opera posed for a photo yesterday in which they are wearing black clothes.

“In mourning and fighting for education, for health, for the Amazon, for the freedom of our Brazil,” wrote actress Alice Wegmann, who plays the villain Dalila in the plot.

Thelma Guedes, who writes the screenplay alongside Duca Rachid, shared the cast’s photo. “I’m with you!”, she wrote.

Besides Alice, there are also Paulo Betti, Eliane Giardini, Guilhermina Libanio, Ana Cecília Costa, Felipe Bragança, Bia Arantes and Yasmin Garcez in the photo.
