Ten slaughterhouses will be authorized to export up to 25,000 tons of beef. Tereza Cristina, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, said she considered the opening of the Indonesian market for Brazilian meat as an achievement for the sector and good news for the economy.

“This is good for our GDP [Gross Domestic Product], it is good for our rural producers that there are more people buying meat to export, and it is good for our meatpacking plants that can continue to generate employment,” she said.

In May, Tereza Cristina met with the Minister of Agriculture of Indonesia, Amran Sulaiman, and discussed the opening of the Brazilian meat market for the Asian country.

At the time, the minister said that Brazilian meatpacking plants can supply the demand for meat from Indonesians, especially beef, as Brazil is an alternative supplier with lower prices in relation to Australia where most of the meat consumed in Indonesia comes from.
