Main Runway Works at Rio’s Santos Dumont Airport Forces Flights to be Transferred to Galeão

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – As of August 24th, Latam, Azul, and Gol flights will be transferred from Santos Dumont Airport to Tom Jobim International Airport (RioGaleão). The measure is a result of the complete interdiction of the main runway at the domestic airport for maintenance works. Adjustments are expected to be achieved on September 21st.

Latam reported that all operations at Santos Dumont will be transferred to RioGaleão during this time and that passengers affected by the suspension will be notified by the company to reschedule their flights or be reimbursed.

Azul’s regular flights will also be transferred to Galeão over the 29 days, but the operations of ATR and Embraer aircraft will be continued on the auxiliary runway at Santos Dumont Airport. Below are details disclosed by Azul airline over the course of works.

From August 24th to 31st:
Flights to Campos, São José dos Campos, and Ribeirão Preto will remain at Santos Dumont. Azul’s other operations will be transferred to Galeão.

From September 1st to 20th:
Flights to Campos, São José dos Campos, Ribeirão Preto, and Vitória will remain at Santos Dumont. Azul’s other operations are transferred to Galeão.
