Uruguay’s First Lady Victim of a Heart Attack

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – María Auxiliadora Delgado, wife of Uruguayan President Tabaré Vázquez, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 31st.

The funeral ceremony will take place all morning in a funeral home. The burial is scheduled for 3 PM at La Teja cemetery.

According to the Uruguayan press, the cause of death was a heart attack.

María Auxiliadora and Tabaré Vázquez had celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2015. They had three children and adopted one more. The couple had eleven grandchildren.

As the first lady, she had always kept a low profile. The only official event she attended, on behalf of her husband, was the funeral of Pope John Paul II in April 2005.
