In Fortaleza, people who use public transportation may enjoy new forms of payment, such as credit and debit cards, mileage programs, and Bitcoin (BTC). According to O Povo local daily newspaper, the introduction of these payment methods will occur by the end of 2019.

The Cooperativa de Transportes Autónomos de Passageiros do Estado do Ceará (Cooperative of Independent Transport of Passengers of the State of Ceará) — Cootraps — considers that through these alternatives it will reduce costs and also attract more users.

According to Cootraps, payments by credit and debit cards will be made through an access system, and the BTC and mileage programs can be performed by smartphones using a QR code that will be generated to confirm the trip. Other cryptocurrencies may still be accepted as a form of payment, but Cootraps does not mention which ones at this time.
