Rio’s Parque das Ruínas Offers Free Cultural Program this Weekend

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Saturday, July 20th, musician João Azevedo will blend dancing rhythms. Raised in the Baixada Fluminense suburb of Rio, he is celebrating the release of his new song “Marmió” in a free performance.

The event will be free and packed with a repertoire of samba, xote, forró, samba-reggae, and MPB.

João Azevedo’s music emerges from the confluence of poetry and popular music, and the show will take the so-called Música Popular de Terreiro (“Popular Music of Terreiro”) to the slopes of Santa Tereza.

On Sunday, July 21st, musician Vedovelli will blend his Rio Grande do Sul origin and Rio de Janeiro experience in a show at the Centro Cultural Parque.

The repertoire is the result of his solo project “Camaleão,” which features his life perspectives, acquired through experiences during his travels and his personal journey.

The artist, who has played alongside major names such as Jack Johnson and the Cachorro Grande band, wanders between moments of introspection and exaltation, through his arrangements.

This time, Vedovelli will share the Park’s stage with Paula Otero on the cello and Marcio Sorriso on percussion, and pledges a mix of different cultures, in addition to a unique sensory experience.

The children’s show “Cordel da Lua Madrinha” (Godmother Moon Yarn) will bring the popular narrative verse typical of the Brazilian northeast to the Centro Cultural Parque until July 28th.

Emphasizing freedom of expression, from childhood to adulthood, the story of Zi and Xica, two youths experiencing the blossoming of their worries, is recounted.

By discovering love, their personalities and choices mature in relation to themselves and each other, with the moon as their godmother.

The show is held on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of July, at 11 am.
