RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – U.S. border patrol officers were searching for a two-year-old Brazilian girl who went missing in Rio Grande, which divides U.S. and Mexican territory, on Tuesday, July 2nd.
Late Monday, July 1st, a woman from Haiti was arrested after crossing the river from Mexico. She told the agents that she had lost her 2-year-old daughter, a Brazilian national, while crossing the waters.
“Every time a child gets lost it’s a tragic event,” Raul Ortiz, the chief of patrol, said in an interview to the patrol agency website. He says he hopes the team’s efforts may have a positive outcome.
This is the same river where Salvadoran migrants Oscar Martines Ramirez and his daughter, just under two years old, drowned. Their bodies were found on June 24th.
