Hyundai Brazil Recalls 6,025 HB20 and HB20S 1.0 Model Due to Axle Shaft Defect

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Hyundai Motors Brazil announced Monday, July 1st, a recall of 6,025 vehicles of models HB20 and HB20S, manufactured between April and May 2019 and equipped with a 1.0 engine, due to a failure in the right front axle shafts.

The assembler identified a batch of parts exhibiting low torque resistance, which may cause “noise during maneuvers and/or vibration during vehicle driving due to premature wear.”

If the vehicle continues to run in these conditions, “there may be a break in the front side shaft” and loss of traction, resulting in potential accidents. However, the brand points out that the “braking and steering systems of the vehicle continue to function normally, irrespective of traction loss.”

The recommended procedure is to inspect the side shaft to determine whether the part pertains to the defective batch. Should identification not be possible, the company will replace the side shaft “to eliminate any risk of breaking.”

This service started yesterday, July 1st, and may be scheduled at any dealership. The brand recommends to stop using the vehicle until the problem is solved. For any queries, Hyundai provides the telephone line 0800-770-3355 (Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM and on Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM) as well as its official website.
