Bolsonaro Looks to Include Other Countries In Currency Union With Argentina

By Xiu Ying

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Jair Bolsonaro (PSL), said on Friday, June 7th, that the project of a single currency between Brazil and Argentina “is like a marriage”. “I see we have much more to gain than to lose,” he said after his country’s central bank denied any such plans are being drawn up.

In Rio, the President and the First Lady attended the graduation of some 2,500 military personnel at the Almirante Alexandrino Training Center (CIAA) in Penha, North Zone.

In Rio, the President attended the graduation of some 2,500 military personnel at the Almirante Alexandrino Training Center (CIAA) in Penha, North Zone.

Earlier, in Buenos Aires – where he met with President Mauricio Macri – he had already commented on this new currency, to be called ‘peso real’.

The President added that the proposed single currency, in his assessment, could be a “brake” on what he termed “socialist adventures” in South America.

Bolsonaro also said that, according to what he heard from the Minister of Economy, the aim was to include other countries in the continent in the single currency.

Also on the subject of Argentina, the President expressed concern over a possible return of Cristina Kirchner to the Casa Rosada. The former President announced her intention of becoming Alberto Fernández’s vice president.

“We have a clear example further north, Venezuela. Once you get to the Venezuelan situation, reversing it and restoring normality is very difficult,” he said.
