Brazil gets Financial Aid from Japan for Venezuelan Refugees

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Japan has decided to offer Brazil up to 400 million Yen (R$14.3/US$3.6 million) in grant aid to help support refugees and immigrants from Venezuela.

About 3.4 million people had left Venezuela for neighboring countries as of February, due to political and economic turmoil. The areas that have accepted them face deteriorating living conditions due to the rapid influx.

Brazil has taken in about 96,000 displaced persons. The aid is to be used for emergency medical services and measures to protect children from abuse and exploitation.

Japan previously offered aid of more than US$1.8 million in the form of medical equipment and contributions to international bodies.
