RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A judge of Santa Catarina received an unusual case. Alexandre Morais da Rosa received a claim from a couple in which the woman sought the Courts to force her husband to show her his WhatsApp messages.
The case, which occurred in the fourth criminal branch of the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina (TJSC), pertains to domestic violence and is subject to legal confidentiality.
There was an argument involving physical assault perpetrated by the husband because the woman wanted to know who he was texting on his cell phone.
This is not the first case in the world where WhatsApp leads a couple to court. In Italy, the App is cited in at least 40 percent of the country’s divorce cases.
The messages exchanged in the App are listed as evidence of cheating, according to a report by an association of marital lawyers in this European country.
