RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – After the Museum of Natural History refused to host a dinner scheduled for May 14th to honor President Jair Bolsonaro as “Man of the Year,” the New York Marriott Marquis has agreed to hold the event sponsored by the US-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.

Following the Museum of Natural History's refusal, New York's Ciprani Hall on Wall also refused to host the Chamber of Commerce's forty-ninth annual dinner
Following the Museum of Natural History’s refusal, New York’s Cipriani Hall on Wall also refused to host the Chamber of Commerce’s forty-ninth annual dinner.

The New York City hotel located at Times Square will host a dinner for a Brazilian whom the city’s left-wing Mayor Bill De Blasio recently named “a dangerous person due to his anti-gay, racist and anti-Amazon rain forest stance.”

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will receive the award of American of the Year at a dinner where an expected one thousand guests will pay US$30,000 a head.

Following the Museum of Natural History’s refusal, New York’s Ciprani Hall on Wall Street also refused to host the Chamber of Commerce’s forty-ninth annual dinner due to pressure by Mayor Blasio and environmental activists.

The change of locale does not guarantee the event will not be subject to protests and even attempts to close it down, as promised by “Decolonizing This Place”(DTP) in a city noted for protest movements.

“DTP” is known for its activism for Indian and environmental causes.
The Marriott hotels in Rio and São Paulo are favorites for Americans visiting Brazil.
