RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Thursday, November 15th, will see one of the rising stars of the alternative rock scene, New Zealand singer-songwriter Connan Mockasin, playing a special concert at the city’s Fabrika venue as part of the Mimpi skate and surf film festival 2018.
Mimpi film festival is a free celebration of skate and surf culture that is taking place from Thursday, November 15th, to Saturday, November 17th at Rio’s Parque Lage. Every year they try to invite an international musical guest whom they admire, with the last notable guest being the presence of Canadian punk singer Mac DeMarco in 2015.
This year they have managed to convince New Zealand singer-songwriter Connan Mockasin to bring his psychedelic retro rock show to the ‘Cidade Maravilhosa.’ Hailing from Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Mockasin has since spent his time living in London, Manchester, and Los Angeles, and is currently residing in Tokyo.
Mockasin released his first album ‘Forever Dolphin Love’ in 2011, which received instant acclaim and saw him collaborating with Charlotte Gainsbourg in the same year, followed by a support slot for Radiohead’s Australia and New Zealand tour in 2012.
Recent years have seen Mockasin collaborate with a diverse set of musicians, including UK musicians James Blake and Dev Hynes, as well as US psychedelic indie duo MGMT. He is currently touring his 2018 release ‘Jassbusters,’ from which fans can expect to hear plenty of tracks when he takes to the stage this Thursday.
