LA Indie Rockers ‘Warpaint’ Perform Tonight at Rio’s Hub RJ

By Jack Arnhold, Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Wednesday, November 7th, critically-acclaimed indie four-piece Warpaint will be playing a one-off show at Hub RJ in Rio’s Santo Cristo neighborhood, with support being provided by Brazilian rockers Carne Doce.

The Los Angeles four-piece Warpaint, comprised of Emily Kokal (vocals and guitar), Theresa Wayman (guitar and vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass and vocals) and Stella Mozgawa (drums), have become a mainstay of festivals worldwide since the release of their first EP, ‘Exquisite Corpse,’ back in 2009, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Brazil News,

Formed in 2004, Warpaint are returning to Brazil as arguably one of the most in-demand indie bands of the moment. Catching the attention of John Frusciante, from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the band’s first EP ‘Exquisite Corpse,’ was produced by the guitarist in 2009, with their debut album 2010’s ‘The Fool’ earning them a place on the BBC’s influential ‘Sound of 2011’ poll.

The band’s eponymous second album was released in early 2014 with production courtesy of Nigel Godrich, who has worked with artists such as Radiohead, Paul McCartney, U2, and Roger Waters. After the album’s release, the band spent more than a year and a half on the road.

Warpaint then reunited in January 2016 to record their third album, which was completed after a few months of work. Released in September of that year, ‘Heads Up’ has shown a more diverse range of influences, from Janet Jackson to Outkast and Björk.

If their storming performance at ‘Balaclava Fest’ in São Paulo this past Sunday is anything to go by, then fans can expect to hear a lengthy set with songs from throughout their almost decade-long career, such as ‘Elephants,’ and ‘Undertow’ from 2010’s ‘The Fool,’ as well as newer releases like ‘New Song,’ and ‘Love is to Die.’

Of extra interest to Brazilian fans is that Warpaint will be supported by popular Brazilian band Carne Doce. Carne Doce are currently touring their well-received third album, 2016’s ‘Tônus,’ and are sure to play a selection of the hits that have brought them domestic fame, such as ‘Artemísia,’ ‘Falo,’ and ‘Passivo.’
