Three Day ‘Festival de Inverno’ Arrives in Rio this Friday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – From Friday, 20th July to Sunday 22nd, Marina da Glória will be hosting the three day ‘Festival de Inverno’ (Winter Festival), with ‘Soul + Black’ – dedicated to hip hop, funk and soul music – on the Friday, July 20th, ‘Rock Brasil’ – dedicated to all things rock – on Saturday, July 21st, and ‘Festa das Patroas’ (Feast of the Mothers) – dedicated to Brazil’s exploding ‘sertanejo’ (country music) phenomenon – on Sunday, July 22nd.

This festival is one that represents the diverse makeup of the ‘Cidade Maravilhosa,’ with three nights offering different styles, artists and crowds. The ‘Festival de Inverno’ (Winter Festival) is going to bringing some of the biggests acts around in Brazilian music to the magnificent surrounds of Marina da Glória.

The first day of the festival, ‘Soul + Black,’ on Friday, July 20th will be featuring some of the greatest hip hop, Brazilian funk, reggaeton and R&B sounds from across the country. On the main stage will be performing Rael, Emicida, 1Kilo, Kevinho and Livinho. The main DJ of the night will be DJ Negralha.

On Saturday, July 21st, it’s time for ‘Rock Brasil,’ which will see some of the biggest bands of the moment taking to the main stage, including Paralamas do Sucesso, Frejat, and Nando Reis. These bands are representing the sound of Brazilian rock and are sure to get the crowd jumping throughout the night. Also, DJ Marcelinho da Lua will be manning the decks to ensure the party continues after the bands are done.

One of the most vibrant musical phenomenons of the moment in Brazil, ‘sertanejo’ (country music) is the theme of the final day, with Sunday, July 22nd being dubbed ‘Festa das Patroas’ (Feast of the Mothers). As the name suggests, this will feature female stars of the sertanejo genre performing on the main stage, including Maiara and Maraisa, and Marília Mendonça. There will also be a DJ set by DJ Dani Fontenelle.

The expected audience is of around 30,000 people over the three days, and the event promises to promote new and exciting artists alongside the bigger name acts. The festival will also be boasting a huge food court, as well as cabins, lounges, and of course cutting-edge visual and audio technology.

There will also be a huge range of other fun activities to bring the full feeling of a festival to Rio for three days.

The man behind ‘Festival de Inverno’ (Winter Festival) Peck Mecenas is quoted as saying, “We want to show that Rio de Janeiro can be an incredible place also in the winter. The main goal is to make the festival very eclectic and attractive. A celebration of different cultures that are totally linked to our city. This ‘Festival de Inverno’ (Winter Festival) is taking place for everyone.”

This is a great choice for those who want to see a lot of music over a few days, especially up-and-coming and established Brazilian artists. Consider this to be a fun-filled stopgap until Rock in Rio returns.
