Born in the capital, Montevideo, Drexler gained international notoriety in 2005, when his composition “Al Otro Lado Del Río”, the theme song of the awarded-winning film “The Motorcycle Diaries” (2004), received the Oscar for “Best Original Song”. Drexler’s “Al Otro Lado Del Río” is the first Spanish soundtrack to have ever won an Oscar.

A talented Latin pop artist, Drexler has released 13 albums, some of them nominated for important awards, such as the Latin Grammy, the MTV Latin Awards, the “Premio Gardel de la Música Argentina”, and the Spanish “Premios de la Música”. What’s more, the artist’s album, “Sea” (2001) was considered one of the ten best albums of the year by the Argentinian Rolling Stones.

Drexler, who was also nominated the Goodwill Ambassador for Health and Water in Latin America by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development in 2010, is the writer of various songs that have become famous in the voice of renowned Latin artists like Omara Portuondo, Mercedes Sosa, Shakira, Maria Rita, and Bajofondo Tango Club.

On Thursday, April 12th, “Salvavidas del Hielo” promises to thrill Rio’s audiences. Having earned Drexler his fifth Grammy nomination, the 2017 album is a true ode to guitars: “I wanted to dive deep into one single thing, this is why there is no other instrument than the guitar in this disc,” Drexler explains, to media outlet G1.

Dense, experimental, and poetic, Drexler’s latest phonographic production depicts themes like migration, the ephemerality of life, silence, and the magic of music. According to the artist, this album has required the longest time of dedication (an entire year).

Among the songs to be played on Theatro Municipal‘s stage are “Telefonía”, a dance number, the politically engaged “Movimiento”, and the reflective “Silencio” will certainly move audiences.
