Produced by Marcello Maldonado and Marcello MBGroove (from the cultural collective, “Vinyl É Arte”), the fair seeks to expand the vinyl culture among Rio’s residents by bringing both the relics and the latest releases from the Long Play market.

This Vinyl Fair edition will pay tribute to João Donato, a remarkable musician from the Música Popular Brasileira who has already played with international artists like Tito Puente, Ralph Peña, Eddie Palmieri, and Johnny Martinez.

Composer, arranger, pianist, and singer, Donato, who inspired some of Bossa Nova’s greatest names, such as “Chega de Saudade”‘s João Gilberto, is expected to attend the event and receive the “Feira do Vinyl do Rio” Trophy in person.

The promising uprising performers from the Carioca music industry will also take part in the fair, with three great independent bands performing on the stage. The event will host the shows of Monoplano, an alternative rock group; Cajubeats, a duo that will present an unusual blend of electronic beats and jazz; and the Digga Digga Duo, who will play 1920’s and 1930’s American foxtrot.

The musical line-up will be complete with performances from the DJs, who will play authentic setlists using vinyl records throughout the day. MPB, black music, rock, and electronic are just some of the various genres one can enjoy at the “Feira do Vinyl do Rio” on Sunday, April 8th.

Among the participants in the fair are Human Head, a famous vinyl record store from Brooklyn, New York; Carioca stores including Tropicália Discos, Arquivo Musical, Baratos da Ribeiro and Satisfaction; and São Paulo’s Locomotiva, Mafer Discos, and Vinil SP. Apart from vinyl records; CDs, audio equipment, clothes, and accessories can also be found in some of the stalls.

At 3PM, the fair will host the panel, “Vinil – Mercado, Memória e Mídia” (Vinyl – Market, Memory, and Media). The panel discussion bring together the journalist Silvio Essinger, from O Globo; Arnaldo Souteiro, journalist, producer and vinyl record collector; Marcelo Fróes, researcher and musical producer; and Marcello MBGroove, DJ, and musical producer.
