Rio Hosts 1st Fantastik Film Festival Until November 6th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – For the first time ever, the city of Rio de Janeiro is hosting Rio Fantastik Festival, event which started on Monday, October 31st and ends on November 6th. The event showcases film genres like science fiction, adventure, horror, comedy, suspense which depict fantastic scenarios and plot lines.

The festival, held at two locations, Copacabana and Jacarepagua in Zona Oeste (Wes Zone), will have short and full feature length movies from filmmakers from all over the country, at accesible prices (ticket costs R$5). Movie showings always start at 8PM.

For its first edition the Rio Fantastik Festival is paying tribute to filmmaker Rodrigo Aragon, one of the great names of the genre in the national cinema. Two of his early works will be shown in a special session on November 5 (Saturday): the movie Mar Negro (Black Sea) and the short Revelações de um Cineasta Canibal (Revelations of a Cannibal Filmmaker).

The five full length, never exhibited films include Através das Sombras directed by Walter Lima Jr., Mar Inquieto, Intruso, Clarissa ou Alguma Coisa de Nós Dois e Repartição do Tempo. In addition to Brazilian productions, the festival has the exhibition “Satanic,” Jeffrey G. Hunt’s terror movie closing the event on the 6th.

According to organizers Rio Fantastik Festival ‘arrives to put the city on the calendar of the major film festivals dedicated to the genre, which has long attracted the attention of moviegoers around the world’ with famous annual festivals like Portugal’s Fantasporto and U.S.’s The Ithaca Fantastik (New York) and Fantastic Fest (Austin, Texas).
