Coldplay Returns to Rio at Maracanã Stadium on April 10th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On the heels of their Super Bowl 50 halftime show, British rock band, Coldplay will return to Rio de Janeiro on April 10th, to perform live at the famous Maracanã Stadium. The Rio show will mark the second stop in Brazil following a performance in São Paulo on April 7th.

Last in the city as part of the lineup for the 2011 edition of Rock in Rio, Coldplay’s stop in Rio this month is part of their ongoing A Head Full of Dreams Tour, held in support of the group’s seventh album of the same name.

Currently consisting of vocalist, pianist, and guitarist Chris Martin, guitarist and keyboardist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion. Coldplay was formed by Martin and Buckland in 1996.

The band released their debut album Parachutes in 2000. Featuring singles that included “Shiver”, “Yellow“, and “Trouble”, the album achieved both commercial and critical success.

Coldplay’s follow-up album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, which featured singles “In My Place”, “Clocks“, and “The Scientist”, would go on to win the band the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2003 Grammy Awards.

In 2005 the group released their third album X&Y and followed that with Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends in 2008. During their 2011 appearance at Rock in Rio, Coldplay previewed songs from their fifth album Mylo Xyloto, which was then released later in October of that year. Their sixth album, Ghost Stories, followed in 2014.

Released in December of last year, Coldplay’s latest release, A Head Full of Dreams was nominated for the British Album of the Year at the 2016 Brit Awards but lost to Adele’s 25.

During the show in Maracanã, fans can expect to hear both new songs and the hits that the band has made famous around the world.
