RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Well known for their experimental rock sounds, energy during live shows, and stage-diving frontman Yannis Philippakis, British indie band Foals will perform in Rio de Janeiro for the first time on Thursday, October 8th in Saúde’s Sacadura 154.

Currently touring in support of their recently released fourth album entitled, What Went Down, the band will arrive at the popular Port Zone venue, Sacadure 154, thanks in part to Queremos, a Rio based crowdfunded kickstarter, that connects musicians, agents, fans and venues.

Formed in 2005 in Oxford, England, Foals is a quintet featuring frontman, vocalist, and guitarist Yannis Philippakis, guitarist and keyboardist Jimmy Smith, bassist Walter Gervers, keyboardist Edwin Congreave, and drummer Jack Bevan.

The band’s math rock, techno, and afro-pop infused debut album, Antidotes, was released in 2008. Produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, the album reached the third spot on the UK Albums Charts shortly after its release.

During the years that followed, Foals’ sound evolved becoming more dynamic, ambitious, heavier and more experimental. The group released more albums, Total Life Forever in 2010 and Holy Fire in 2013. Touring the world, the quintet also earned a reputation for their rowdy, energetic live performances. They took home the Q Award for Best Live Act in 2013 and were nominated in 2011 and 2013 for NME’s Award for Best Live Act.

Foals released their most recent album, What Went Down on August 28th and it also reached number three on both the UK and Australian charts. Additionally, the album has received favorable critical reviews. NME said of the album’s riffs; “They slammed into your eardrums like wrecking balls the first time you heard the compulsive title-track, aghast that these desert rock goliaths could be the same band that sounded like frivolous disco pixies just two years ago.”

Sacadura 154’s doors will open at 8PM on Thursday and the Rocknbeats party will take place before and after the show.
