RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Before they play as part of the São Paulo Lollapalooza music festival lineup on March 28th and March 29th, Amercian indie pop trio Foster the People and English rock band Bastille will perform live at Rio de Janeiro’s Citibank Hall on Friday, March 27th.
Formed by commercial jingle writer Mark Foster in 2009 in Los Angeles, California, Foster the People made their way onto the indie music scene with their catchy hit “Pumped Up Kicks.”
While the single seemed to burst into the mainstream, the song had a slow rise to the top. It’s eventual success is credited to radio play, multiple television appearances and touring by the trio with Mark Foster on vocals, guitar and keyboards, Cubbie Fink on the bass and Mark Pontius on drums.
Their debut album, Torches, full of more catchy pop hook and including the singles “Helena Beat” and “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)”, proved to be both a commercial and critical success, earning the band two Grammy nominations.
After extensive touring, the trio followed up with the second album release, Supermodel in 2014. Singles include “Coming of Age“, “Pseudologia Fantastica“, and “Best Friend.”
Opening for Foster the People on Friday night will be English rock band Bastille. Originally formed by singer-songwriter Dan Smith as a solo project in 2010, the group now consists of Smith, Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, and Chris Wood.
They have released one album, 2013’s Bad Blood. Singles include the title track, “Pompeii,” and “Flaws.” “Pompeii” has sold two million copies worldwide and was among the most played songs on Brazilian radio stations in 2014.
