RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – After several delays due to rain, Dia da Rua 2013 has been rescheduled to this Sunday, April 28th. The fourth installment of the street festival will unite Carioca artists in a series of free shows in Zona Sul (South Zone); Leblon, Ipanema and Arpoador.

Beginning at 2PM, ten performances are scheduled to happen starting every fifteen minutes on stages built at intervals along the beach. In the spirit of the event, the schedule is planned such that the public can enjoy a glimpse of each performance, as well as participate in the “musical parade” that travels through the neighborhoods.

This year’s line-up features a divergent range of sounds, beginning in Leblon with international mash-up artist João Brasil. Known for mixing funk, classical, indie rock and everything in between, João Brasil is a celebrated party-starter in the Cidade Maravilhosa.

“It’s always a pleasure to see his show,” said 24-year-old Tomás Pinheiro, commercial manager of fashion brand Heckel Verri. “The last concert I went to, he mixed Bonde de Tigrão with The XX and it was awesome.”

Avant-garde instrumentalists Rabotnik will follow at 2:15 PM on Rua General Artiga. Inspired by equal parts Frank Zappa, Miles Davis and Kraftwerk, this wildly experimental band most recently performed on Gal Costa’s new album “Recanto,” produced by Caetano and Moreno Veloso. Singer/songwriter André Carvalho, the son of Novos Baianos’ Dadi Carvalho, will perform at 2:30 PM on Avenue Bartolomeu Mitre, followed by psychedelic folk artist MoMo at 2:45 PM on Av. Afrânio de Melo Franco.

Electro pop trio Mahmundi will follow at 3:15 PM between Ruas Aníbal de Mendonça and Garcia D’Ávila. Armed with guitars, drum machines and effects pedals, they will bring to life the up-tempo cuts recorded on their debut album “Efeito das Cores,” released in 2012.

At 3:30 PM, experimental folk artist Botika, also known as the composer and frontman of Os Outros, will take the stage between Ruas Maria Quitéria and Joana Angélica.

Festivities in Ipanema will finish with singer/songwriter Davi Moraes, who will play at 3:45 PM between Ruas Farme de Amoedo and Teixeira de Melo. The son of Novos Baianos’ Moraes Moreira, Davi is a frequent collaborator with artists like Caetano Veloso, Marisa Monte and Ivete Sangalo, and is rumored to be in the process of releasing another solo album.

Over in Arpoador, rapper and activist MC Marechal will take to Rua Francisco Bhering at 4PM, and singer/songwriter Alice Caymmi will finish the evening at 5PM at Pedra do Arpoador.

The event was originally scheduled for March 24th, but a string of rainy weekends has postponed the performances. Heavy rains are common in Rio during March and April, but fortunately the weather forecast for this weekend is all sun.
