RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The American Society of Rio de Janeiro (AmSoc Rio) will host a community Happy Hour and membership drive this Friday, April 19th at the recently reopened Mab’s Bar and Restaurant located on Copacabana Beach. Festivities are scheduled to began at 7PM and will include live samba music and special Happy Hour discounts to get things rolling.
AmSoc Rio is the largest of the expatriate societies in Rio, which was founded in 1917 and now boasts over 500 members. Growing membership and participation is always a goal though, and there will also be AmSoc Rio Board members on hand to assist newcomers interested in joining; explaining about charity activities and volunteer opportunities.
Mab’s is the perfect location for this event, not just because it faces the beach in Copacabana, but as an American owned-business we are able to help support expatriate endeavors and further foster community in Rio. Their full menu of Brazilian and international cuisine will be available with regular Happy Hour specials that include 2-for-1 caipirinhas and six large beers for the price of five.
Mab’s new owner; Bob Fetterman, along with Luis Neves and Niels Nielsen will graciously offer a further ten percent discount on drinks and a fifteen percent discount off regular menu prices to AmSoc Rio members as well as to those who sign-up as members during the event.
The benefits of becoming a member of AmSoc Rio include more than reduced prices on Friday night. Helping to foster a sense of community in a foreign city, AmSoc Rio holds numerous events throughout the year including the upcoming annual America’s Day celebration on Saturday, May 25th.
