Bolivia exported 77% of its urea production as fertilizer to Brazil

Bolivia managed to export 77% of urea fertilizer production to Brazil in the first quarter of 2023, informed the president of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), Armin Dorgathen.

“20% was destined to supply the domestic market.”

“The surplus production of the agro fertilizer was destined for Brazil, the main buyer with a volume of over 63,300 tonnes (77%), Peru, Paraguay, and Argentina, countries that demand Bolivian urea, since our product helps to increase crops, a need that is also growing in the region”, he said in an interview with state television.

Bolivia invoiced approximately US$31.9 million between January and March for the sale of 81,933 tonnes of granulated urea in the domestic and foreign markets.

Urea is the most widely used nitrogen fertilizer worldwide for rice, corn, wheat, and sugar cane crops, to name a few.

Bolivia produces the fertilizer at the Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz Ammonia and Urea Plant in the department of Cochabamba in central Bolivia, intending to boost national agriculture and contribute to food security.
