Morocco joins the list of countries that import live cattle from Brazil

Besides being the biggest meat exporter in the world, Brazilian producers also sell live animals to other countries. Morocco, in Northwest Africa, is the latest destination in the list of countries that import live cattle from Brazil.

The first cargo arrived in the African country on Sunday.

Almost 3 thousand heads of cattle landed at the Jorf Lasfar Port on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Due to the atypical case of mad cow disease recently registered in Pará, the shipping process followed strict sanitary criteria, according to the local press.

The big exporter of live cattle in Brazil is Pará. In 2022, shipments earned almost US$ 130 million for the state.

Brazilian producers earned almost US$ 200 million with the shipments of these animals. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the shipments totaled around 75 million kilos.

Morocco became the 19th destination among the countries that import live cattle from Brazil, according to the figures registered by Mapa.

The top three countries are Iraq, Turkey, and Jordan. Together, they were responsible for about 65% of the country’s revenue in the sector.

The rest is divided between Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Congo, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Marshall Islands, Norway, Singapore, Italy, the United States, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh.
