Brazil: oil workers cross arms on Friday and evaluate the possibility of a strike

The workers linked to Brazil’s Unique Petroleum Workers Federation (FUP) will paralyze activities on Friday (24) to assess the possibility of going on strike against the resumption of the privatization process of Petrobras assets, according to a statement issued on Monday (21).

According to the category, the decision to strike comes after a letter sent by the company’s Board of Directors to proceed with the sale of projects that already have pre-contracts signed, such as the Polo Norte Capixaba, Polos Golfinho and Camarupim (ES), Polos Pescada and Potiguar (RN) and Lubnor (CE).

The document sent by the board to the Council comes two weeks after the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) sent a letter to Petrobras asking to suspend the sale of assets for 90 days.

Petrobras has not commented on the strike and the possibility of a strike by oil workers.

Last Friday (17), the company issued a statement saying it sent to the MME a letter about the request to suspend the sale of assets and said that after preliminary studies on the “divestment processes”, “we found no grounds by which the projects in which there were already signed contracts (signing) should be suspended. The processes in which there were no signed contracts will continue under analysis.”
