The Democratic Unity Platform, opposing Nicolás Maduro’s rule in Venezuela, highlighted a major obstacle this Saturday.
The National Electoral Council is blocking Corina Yoris’s candidacy registration for the July 28 elections.
Despite initiating the nomination process over 54 hours ago, the group has faced delays in accessing the system for Yoris’s candidacy, as shared on their X account.
Despite these barriers, the opposition remains steadfast in its goal to facilitate change through electoral means.
Various leaders have publicly criticized the electoral council’s delay in providing essential validation codes for candidate registration, with a looming deadline on March 25.
Yoris, replacing María Corina Machado, brings commendable academic and professional credentials to the opposition’s campaign.
Previously, the U.S. had reimposed sanctions on Venezuela’s oil and gas sectors after the Supreme Court’s decision to disqualify Machado from the presidential race.
The Venezuelan government invites international bodies to oversee elections, but their participation confirmation is pending.
