Among the victims who lost their lives at sea, three were in the city of Guarujá and two in Mongaguá, both on São Paulo’s south coast. One person died in Bertioga and another in Ubatuba, both cities along São Paulo’s north coast.

In Greater São Paulo, two people drowned in the Guarapiranga reservoir, one in the region of Grajaú (southern São Paulo capital) and the other in the city of São Bernardo do Campo.

Among the three victims who drowned in Guarujá are a 60-year-old man from Cerqueira César, a 27-year-old man from Várzea Paulista and a 24-year-old man from Sumaré. In Bertioga, a 22-year-old man from Mogi das Cruzes was rescued, but did not survive.

In Itanhaém, two young men from the São Paulo capital are missing: a 21 and an 18 year-old.

Despite the novel coronavirus pandemic and the state of São Paulo still being quarantined, the beaches were crowded during this extended holiday. Over 200,000 vehicles left the city of São Paulo towards the coast, a larger number than recorded in the same period in 2019.
