Doria Wants to Join Huck: ‘Democratic Center Should Walk Together’

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Head of the PSDB and a potential candidate for the presidency in 2022, João Doria met with Fernando Henrique Cardoso (FHC) on Tuesday. The talk, in Doria’s words, was “good and humorous”.

The governor of São Paulo, despite the results obtained in the administration of the country’s largest state, had been getting a, shall we say, less amicable treatment from Fernando Henrique Cardoso.

The former president recently handed out compliments to the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, an alleged presidential candidate in his view, and also visited the governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino, to discuss a plan for the country. All the while supporting Luciano Huck’s putting his hat in the ring.

Tuesday’s conversation, as Doria describes it, served to lay down the rules of the game, including a nod to Huck on the governor’s part, another flirting with a candidacy to the Palacio do Planalto.

“We argue that the democratic center should walk together. Huck, me and anyone else who wants to be part of this democratic convergence. Whoever aspires to a better, fairer and more prosperous Brazil. But far from the extremes,” Doria said about his conversation with FHC.
