By Jay Forte, Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Carioca Cricket Club (CCC), which was founded in 2011, is rolling forward with their 2015 season as the third intra-club match of the year was held on Saturday, May 16th, at the São Fernando Polo & Cricket Club near Itaguaí. June is looking to have even more action as their next match will be held on June 13th, and on June 18th a social event is planned at local English pub Lord Jim’s in Ipanema.

President of the CCC, Craig Allison said, “Turnout for the May match was great: 26 players showed up, including two new members, and one of those a new Brazilian member. For the next match on 13th of June, we are expecting another strong turnout, with now more than fifty active cricketers signed up to the CCC.”

In terms of what is new to draw out even larger numbers for the June match to the grounds in Itaguaí, a fazenda [estate] in a beautiful setting, with a club-house and swimming pool available for players, families and spectators, Allison adds, “By then [June 13th], we will have our new net built, and our bowling machine set up and ready to test the batting skills of our members, firing balls down at anything between 80 and 140 kmph.”

Then the next event in June is the Quiz Night, and Lord Jim’s in Ipanema is a great fit for the club as the self described oldest expat bar in Ipanema. It was also the location for the annual membership drive held in January. Allison explains, “The Quiz Night on the 18th of June is another CCC social event to bring members together in a relaxed environment, testing their general knowledge in a competitive format, with beer, caipiroskas and nachos supplied by our gracious hosts at Lord Jim. CCC members, friends, family and others are welcome.”

In other club news, in addition to their original Crown Sponsor Granado, and 2015 Media Sponsor The Rio Times, two new sponsors have signed on to support the cricket community in Rio this month, the official Transport Partner is Versátil Turismo, and they also have the new Partner, Mount ECCP.
