Colombia Soccer Team Junior Barranquilla Report 10 COVID-19 Cases

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Colombian soccer team Junior Barranquilla reported 10 positive COVID-19 cases ahead of the club’s clash with Chilean side Coquimbo on Wednesday, December 11th.

Those infected include eight players and two members of the coaching staff, Junior said in a statement posted on social media.

Only two had shown symptoms of the virus and all were ordered to self-isolate in line with Colombia’s public health protocols, the club said.

The announcement came just hours before Junior were due to face Coquimbo in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana quarterfinal at Estadio Metropolitano in Barranquilla.

On Sunday, Junior are scheduled to meet America de Cali in the first leg of their Colombian Primera A semifinal.

Colombia’s health ministry has reported more than 1.3 million positive COVID-19 cases, over 38,000 of which have been fatal.
