RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A freezer “stuffed” with 84 cell phones was detected by agents in the Central State Penitentiary (PCE), in Cuiabá, capital of Mato Grosso, on Thursday, June 6th.
According to the Penitentiary Workers Union in the State of Mato Grosso (Sindspen-MT), the equipment was delivered by a man who has not yet been identified.
When asked to produce an invoice, the individual responsible for the delivery claimed not to be in possession of the document and abandoned the freezer at the prison unit. The agents inspected the equipment and found the cell phones.
In addition to the devices, the freezer contained headphones and chargers.
CCTV security images will be used to assist in the investigation. The destination of the devices is yet to be established.
All devices will be sent for a forensic evaluation.
