Tuesday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Live rock ‘n’ roll is back and going strong at Botafogo’s Casa da Matriz on Tuesday nights with ‘Matriz Live Sessions.’
The weekly events were originally one of the first musical programs held at Casa da Matriz, one of the oldest music venues in Rio, and now they are back to help bring some rock’n’roll to a usually somewhat inactive weeknight. The event’s popularity is growing as each Tuesday they host new up-and-coming rock acts and bands.
Tonight, the bands Vital and Audionova will perform live for this week’s Matriz Live Sessions. Audionova was influenced by bands including Coldplay, Beatles, and Kings of Leon, while Vital includes Papa Roach, Velvet Revolver and Anberlin as influences for their slightly harder sound.

Curta Cinema 2014
The Curta Cinema 2014 festival continues today with free screenings of over 250 films from 31 countries. The screenings are taking place throughout the city in venues including Estação Botafogo, Centro Cultural Justiça Federal (CCJF), Cinemaison and Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. At 7:30PM, saxophonist Daniela Spielmann and her trio, also including Bilinho Teixeira on guitar and Xande Figueiredo on drums and percussion,will get things started at Rio Scenarium with their blend of choro, maracatu, samba, bossa nova and jazz. Then at 10:30PM the group Bebadosamba will deliver the best of traditional saba and choro.

Language exchange – Lapa Irish Pub (Lapa)
It’s Portuguese/English language exchange night at the Lapa Irish Pub. Set up like speed dating, native English speakers will be paired up with native Portuguese speaker at tables. The pairs will then speak English for 5 minutes followed by Portuguese for 5 minutes. After those ten minutes, each speaker will move on to a new table and conversation partner.
