The Rio Times WC Viewing Event June 14thTuesday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Watch England take on Costa Rica in their third group match of the 2014 World Cup. Beginning early at 1PM, the match will be broadcast live on a large screen at the Gringo Café in Ipanema.

There will be R$5 bottles of beer, R$10 caipirinhas and caipivodkas and additional food promotions. DJ Slim will play before and after the game.

Tonight’s event is the fifth of six USA and England group game viewing parties hosted by The Rio Times with co-hosts, The British & Commonwealth Society of Rio (BCS), and the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Brazil (Britcham) the U.S. Consulate General, and the American Society of Rio de Janeiro (AmSoc Rio).

The Rio Times World Cup Viewing Party (Ipanema)
At 1PM England takes on Costa Rica in their third group match of the World Cup. Join friends to watch a live broadcast on a large screen at the Gringo Café in Ipanema. There will be R$5 bottles of beer, R$10 caipirinhas and caipivodkas and additional food promotions. DJ Slim will play before and after the game.

FIFA Fan Fest (Copacabana)
From June 12th through July 13th, Copacabana beach will be home to the FIFA Fan Fest during the 2014 World Cup games. The 31,000 m² area on the beach between the streets of Princesa Isabel and Duvivier, will house a large screen to view the matches live and a stage for entertainers that, during the tournament, will include; Sorriso Maroto, Dudu Nobre, Arlindo Cruz, Anitta, Sandra de Sá, Bom Gosto, Suvaco de Cristo, Cordão da Bola Preta, Fogo e Paixão, Bloco Brasil, Empolga às Nove, Blitz. All 64 matches of the World Cup will be shown live, which the exception of simultaneous games, when one match will be broadcast later. On Brazilian match days a second 50m² screen will be added . Each game day, the area between the streets of Princesa Isabel and Duvivier will open two hours before the first match of the day and always close at 10PM. Capacity for the area is 20,000. Entry is free and entrance will be granted according to order of arrival.

Gallotti: Carioca, Samba e Futebol (Lapa)
Tonight at Carioca da Gema in Lapa, vocalist and guitarist Marcos Novatto starts things off at 8PM. Beginning at 10PM, vocalist Eduardo Gallotti will combine soccer (football) and music by honoring a local Rio team and its players with lively sambas.

At 7:30 PM instrumentalist band Taruira gets things started at Centro’s Rio Scenarium with chorinhos and samba. The group Samba Urbano will follow at 10:30PM with its members delivering more lively samba.

Jazz Leviano with Folakemi Quinteto (Lapa)
Tuesday nights are all about jazz at Lapa’s Levianp bar and tonight the venue hosts very special guest, English singer Folakemi. She will sing jazz, soul, blues and reggae tonight, accompanied by her quintet.

Language exchange – Lapa Irish Pub (Lapa)
It’s Portuguese/English language exchange night at the Lapa Irish Pub. Set up like speed dating, native English speakers will be paired up with native Portuguese speaker at tables. The pairs will then speak English for five minutes followed by Portuguese for five minutes. After those ten minutes, each speaker will move on to a new table and conversation partner. It’s both fun and educational and the R$10 entrance cost includes free food. A session of live Irish music will follow the exchange. Additionally during the World Cup, the pub will shows games live on its screens.

Shenanigan’s Live Music (Ipanema)
With live music and classic pub games like darts and pool, Ipanema’s Shenanigan’s is always a great spot to visit. Happy Hour is dose dupla (two for one) on Mondays through Fridays 6PM-8PM. Additionally, tacos are half-price on Tuesdays.
