BembrasilTuesday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time again for the Bem Brasil Rio Hostel Party.

For over five years, the event has been going strong and gaining popularity. Held at Gávea’s chic club 00 (Zero Zero) with its indoor/outdoor arrangement, the Bem Brasil Rio Hostel Party is a weekly meeting of locals, tourists, and travelers staying in sixty of Rio’s hostels.

Tonight the entertainment includes a performance from the samba group Bom Batuque and DJs Haron Dufau spinning the best of Latin rhythms, reggaeton, cumbia, kuduro and hip-hop.

Make sure to show up early for the free caipirinhas from 11PM to 12AM and stay late to make new friends and dance the night away as the party continues until sunrise on Wednesday.

Blocos (Various Locations)
Carnival 2015 is in full force and with that the blocos, as the street parties are known, will take over Rio de Janeiro today. Some of the most notable today are: Bloco das Carmelitas at 10AM in Santa Teresa, Rio Maracatu at 10AM in Ipanema, Trio Ternura In Barra’s Avenida Lucio Costa at 1PM and the Orquestra Voadora in the Aterro do Flamengo at 3PM. Leblon will have Empurra Que Pega Do Leblon at 4PM, while the Cachorro Cansado will take over Flamengo at 5PM.
It is important to note that meet-up points and locations of the bloco parades are subject to change.

Feel Leblon (Leblon)
The weekly Feel Leblon party is back at Sette Leblon bar and lounge tonight. Promotions include all you can drink caipirinhas until midnight and two for one beers all night long. DJs will keep the party going until 4AM as they spin the best of pop, house, reggaeton, hip-hop and more.

Bem Brasil – The Rio Hostels Party (Gávea)
The Bem Brasil party returns to 00 tonight with DJ Haron Dufau spinning the best of Latin rhythms, reggaeton, cumbia, kuduro and hip hop and the group Bom Batuque performing live samba. Promotions include free caipirinhas until midnight. This weekly party is a great opportunity to mix and mingle in one of the chicest venues in Rio.

In honor of Carnival, Leviano continues its series of themed events with Marcelle Motta and Johnnys tonight. Doors open already at 3PM, but the roda de samba doesn’t start until 9PM.

PUBS & BARS:

Language Exchange – Lapa Irish Pub (Lapa)
Tonight at Lapa Irish Pub, it’s time again for the Portuguese/English language exchange. Set up like speed dating, native English speakers will be paired with native Portuguese speaker at tables. The pairs will then speak English for five minutes followed by Portuguese for five minutes. After those ten minutes, each speaker will move on to a new table and conversation partner. The night is both fun and educational and the R$10 entrance cost includes free food. Additionally, live music performances usually follow the Language Exchange.

Blue Agave (Copacabana)
Check out Blue Agave for some of the best Mexican food and the best margaritas in Rio. They also live stream American and European sports.

Lord Jim’s Pub (Ipanema)
Lord Jim’s Pub is the oldest pub in Rio and is well known for its live music and promotional specials. During Happy Hours (6PM to 8PM) on Mondays through Fridays, the pub offers two for one draft beer. This is also a great place to watch live sports.

Mab’s Restaurant and Bar (Copacabana)
This American-owned restaurant and bar on Copacabana Beach is a great place for food and drinks. Additionally, every night, Tony Boka is performing live from 8PM until midnight. Boka is known for his varied repertoire that always pleases the crowd.

Shenanigan’s Live Music (Ipanema) With live music and classic pub games like darts and pool, Ipanema’s Shenanigan’s is always a great spot to visit. Happy Hour is dose dupla (two for one) on Mondays through Fridays 6PM-8PM. Additionally, tacos are half-price on Tuesdays. This is another great place to watch live streaming sports.
