Rio NFL MixUPSunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Today beginning at 1PM, The Rio Times will host the Rio NFL Mix featuring live viewing of NFL regular season opening games.

The event includes seven large screens at Clover Irish Pub in Copacabana playing up to three simultaneous games until 1AM, or until the last game of the day ends.

Co-Hosted by The American Society of Rio de Janeiro, and Sponsored by Budweiser, the special event features promotions of R$8 Budweiser bottles, 5-for-price-of-4 buckets, and half price wings and nachos with beer bucket orders. Additionally if you wear your team’s jersey, you get your first beer free. Also if you order five shots, you can purchase The Rio Times T-Shirt for just R$10 (while sizes and supplies last).

Today’s games include; Buffalo at Chicago (2PM), New England at Miami (2PM), New Orleans at Atlanta (2PM), Cincinnati at Baltimore (2PM), Jacksonville at Philadelphia (2PM), Washington at Houston (2PM), Cleveland at Pittsburgh (2PM), Minnesota at St. Louis (2PM), Tennessee at Kansas City (2PM), Oakland at N.Y. Jets (2PM), San Francisco at Dallas (5:25 PM), Carolina at Tampa Bay (5:25 PM) and Indianapolis at Denver (9:30 PM).

Current Swell (Lapa)
Reminiscent of artists like Jack Johnson, Donovan Frankenreiter and the Beach Boys, Canadian band Current Swell will bring their unique blend of indie rock and surf music to Lapa’s Circo Voador tonight. The group was last in Brazil in 2012 and released their sixth studio album entitled, Ulysses, earlier this year in May. The band Qinho will open.

Duo (Gávea)
End your weekend with house and electro pop at Duo in Gávea’s 00 (Zero Zero). The party begins at 5PM and continues in the chic indoor/outdoor venue until 5AM. Things usually get started on the outdoor deck with DJs Fabiano Pax and Marcia Bertonni and then gradually shifts inside where DJs Mor Rafael Calvente and Dri Toscano usually spin. The weekly event is also known to host special guest DJs.

MÚSICA BRASILEIRA:

Roda de Samba, Soccer (Football) and Ballet 2 (Lapa)
Sundays are all about samba and soccer at Lapa’s Leviano bar. Every week beginning at 5PM the venue plays live games on their screens with samba dancers following the matches and the group Ballet 2 playing classics of the genre, including works by Arlindo Cruz, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira, among others.

It’s time to dance as singer-songwriter Rogê returns for his weekly show at Lapa’s Carioca de Gema. The lively up-and-coming performer will present his own compositions as well as covers of works by Jorge, Djavan, and Jorge Benjor, among others.

Ginga Tropical (Catete)
Exeperience Brazil’s rich musical history at Casarão Ameno Resedá in Catete tonight as the venue holds the Ginga Tropical theater event featuring the best of Brazilian rhythms and dancing. A tribute to Brazilian legend Carmen Miranda kicks things off followed by cabaret and an homage to famous Brazilian televison presenter Osvaldo Sargentelli. The show will continue with samba, dancing Orixás, lambada, forró, maracatu, pagode, bossa nova, funk and frevo, almost everything one needs to get a true feel for the rhythms and musical culture of Brazil in one night.
