Dream Theater SundaySunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Tonight American progressive metal band Dream Theater plays live at Vivo Rio.

The five-piece metal band was formed in 1985 and the current lineup consists of John Petrucci on guitar, John Myung on bass, James LaBrie on vocals, Jordan Rudess and Mike Mangini, who replaced founding member Mike Portnoy on drums in 2011.

They have released twelve studio albums and have toured the world extensively for nearly three decades.

Exodus (Lapa)
Headbanging continues in Rio tonight as American thrash metal band Exodus plays live at Lapa’s Circo Voador. Formed in 1980 the band has released ten studio albums and has headlined festivals including Thrashfest 2010 and Wacken Open Air 2011. Additionally, the band Hatefulmurder will perform to open the night.

Forró da Rua with Caramuela (Centro)
Tonight Centro’s La Paz club hosts Forró da Rua with the group Caramuela performing live. They will present the best of forró pé-de-serra and their interpretations of classic works by famous Brazilian musicians.

Duo (Gávea)
End your weekend with house and electro pop at Duo in Gávea’s 00 (Zero Zero). The party begins at 5PM and continues in the chic indoor/outdoor venue until 5AM. Things usually get started on the outdoor deck with DJs Fabiano Pax and Marcia Bertonni and then gradually shifts inside where DJs Mor Rafael Calvente and Dri Toscano usually spin. The weekly event is also known to host special guest DJs.

It’s time to dance as singer-songwriter Rogê returns for his weekly show at Lapa’s Carioca de Gema. The lively up-and-coming performer will present his own compositions as well as covers of works by Jorge, Djavan, and Jorge Benjor, among others.
