Rodrigo Amarante30thSunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Brazilian singer-songwriter Rodrigo Amarante will perform live tonight at Circo Voador in Lapa.

Born Rodrigo Amarante de Castro Neves in 1976 in Rio de Janeiro, the musician is well known as a former songwriter for the band Los Hermanos and for his collaborations with musicians including: Los Hermanos, Gilberto Gil, Tom Zé, Devendra Banhart, Maria Monte, Adrianna Calcanhotto and Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, whom he worked with on the project, Little Joy.

Amarante released his first solo LP entitled Cavalo, earlier this year. The album was met will critcal praise and features eleven tracks done in a style that has been compared to Andrew Bird, Caetano Veloso, and the band Spoon, among others.

Amarante will perform at Circo Voador tonight thanks to the help of Queremos, a Rio crowdfunded kickstarter, that helps musicians, agents and fans work together to book shows.

Tonight, Stéphane San Juan will perform before Amarante to open the night.

Festival Multiplicidade 2014 Closing Weekend (Gávea)

O Cluster (Botafogo)
Today beginning at 1PM, the O Cluster fair returns to Botafogo for its tenth edition. The fair is celebrating two years of showcasing the best new clothing, accessories, design and food in Rio. In addition to the vendors, DJs Andrei Yurievitch, Ícaro Santos, Lili Prohmann, Marcelinho Da Lua, and Léo Towers will spin durnig the event and artist Bragga will do live painting. Galeria Homegrown will also present an exposition.

Espaço Ox (Leme)
Today photographer Juliana Rocha will launch her new book “Copacabana Sentimental” at the Leme lounge and restaurant, Espaço Ox. Carolina Hollanda, Juliano Serpa Guilherme Freire, and Manara will also be present at the launch to provide entertainment and to celebrate the new book.

Babilônia Feira Hype (Glória)
Babilônia Feira Hype continues to celebrate its eighteenth anniversary as its holds the second day of a special edition at Marina da Glória. The popular fair is known for showcasing creative up-and-coming fashion brands and art and features numerous exhibitors.

Duo (Gávea)
End your weekend with house and electro pop at the Duo party held in Gávea’s 00 (Zero Zero). The party begins at 5PM and continues in the chic indoor/outdoor venue until 5AM. Things usually get started on the outdoor deck with DJs Fabiano Pax and Marcia Bertonni and then gradually shifts inside where DJs Mor Rafael Calvente and Dri Toscano usually spin. The weekly event is also known to host special guest DJs.

It’s time to dance as singer-songwriter Rogê returns for his weekly show at Lapa’s Carioca de Gema. The lively up-and-coming performer will present his own compositions as well as covers of works by Jorge, Djavan, and Jorge Benjor, among others.

Roda de Samba, Soccer (Football) and Ballet 2 (Lapa)
Sundays are all about samba and soccer at Lapa’s Leviano bar. Every week beginning at 4PM the venue plays live games on their screens with samba dancers following the matches and the group Ballet 2 playing classics of the genre, including works by Arlindo Cruz, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira, among others.
