samungbluesSunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Promisng to be one of the biggest blues events in the city this year, the Samsung Blues Festival will take place in Vivo Rio in Parque do Flamengo tonight.

Perfomring live will be American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ben Harper, acclaimed American blues harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite, and Brazilian singer-songwriter and harmonica player Flávio Guimarães.

In 2012, Harper and Musselwhite collaborated on the album Get Up!. Following the album’s release in early 2013, the two performed live as part of the 2013 Rock in Rio festival. The record then went on to win the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album.

Brazilian harmonica player Flávio Guimarães is well known for his work with groundbreaking Brazilian blues band, Blues Etílicos. He has also previously performed with Charlie Musselwhite as well as Ed Motta, Zeca Baleiro, and Buddy Guy, among others.

Feira Junina de Food Trucks (Recreio Dos Bandeirantes)
Today is the fourth and final day of the Feira Junina de Food Trucks at Américas Shopping located in the neighborhood of Recreio Dos Bandeirantes. The free-entry fair has been celebrating the Festa Junina holidays with twenty food trucks and participants including Bibocaft, Burgertopia, Contrabando beertruck, Paris Gourmet Food Truck, Ribz Truck and The Pub Truck, among others.

Dia da Musica (Glória)
Ten stages of musicians will perform live in Rio de Janeiro today as part of Dia da Musica (Day of Music) celebrations. There will be over forty shows will performers including Biltre, the Daniela Spielmann Quarteto, Eduardo Neves & Rogério Caetano, Afrojazz, Ava Rocha, and Omulu, among others. The stages will be Espaço Cultural Sérgio Porto in Humaitá; Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas in Santa Teresa; Centro Municipal de Referência da Música Carioca in Tijuca; Sala Baden Powell in Copacabana, Arena Carioca Dicró in Penha Circular, Arena Carioca Fernando Torres in Madureira; Museu de Arte Moderna in Glória, Praça Russel in Glória; and Praça Tiradentes in Centro;

Samsung Blues Festival (Parque do Flamengo)

It’s time once again for the best of house, electro, and pop as the twelve-hour Duo party returns to Gávea’s chic 00 (Zero Zero) club. DJs Lis Amaral and Miga_zz will start off the night by spinning on the outdoor deck and DJs Babi, Rafael Calvente, and Pedro Massucatti will follow, spinning inside throughout the night until 5AM Monday morning.

Roda de Samba and Football with Ballet 2 Passistas (Football) (Lapa)
Sundays are all about samba and soccer at Lapa’s Leviano bar. Every week beginning at 5PM the venue plays live games on their screens with samba dancers following the matches and the group Ballet 2 playing classics of the genre, including works by Arlindo Cruz, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira, among others. Additionally, DJ Mukato will spin during show intervals.
