Don’t miss the opportunity to see the six schools Viradouro, Mangueira, Mocidade, Vila Isabel, Salgueiro and Grande Rio show their parades in competing for the 2015 Carnival championship crown.

The Carnival parades are not only colorful spectacles, but also a serious competition with great glory awaiting the winning school and an opportunity to parade again in the Champions’ Parade next weekend for the six best schools.

Grupo Especial Parade (Santo Cristo)
The first night of the Special Group samba school parades will take over the Sambódromo tonight. Don’t miss the opportunity to see traditional schools, such as Mangueira, Vila Isabel and Salgueiro parade for the 2015 samba championship title.

OTHER:

Blocos (Various Locations)
Carnival 2015 is in full force and with that close to a hundred blocos, as the street parties are known, will take over Rio de Janeiro today. Some of the most notable are: Bangalafumenga in the Aterro do Flamengo at 10AM, Cordão Do Boitatá at Praça XV in Centro at 9AM, the Michael Jackson themed bloco Thriller Eletrico in Vila Isabel at 10AM and Simpatia É Quase Amor in Ipanema at 4PM. Toca Rauuul will meet at Praça Tiradents in Centro at 4PM, while Soul Carioca will play at 6PM in Madureira.
It is important to note that meet-up points and locations of the bloco parades are subject to change.

Bomba Santa catuaba (Copacabana)
Enjoy typical Brazilians sounds such as Axé and Brazilianized music described as brega-pop, funk, tecno-tosqueiras, hip-hoparangolé and rock-capricho at this wild Carnival themed party.

Duo (Gávea)
It’s Sunday and that means it’s time to end your weekend with the best of house and electro pop at Duo in Gávea’s 00 (Zero Zero). The party begins early at 5PM and continues in the chic indoor/outdoor venue until 5AM. Things usually get started on the outdoor deck with DJs spinning and then gradually shift inside where more DJs spin. The weekly event is also known to host internationally recognized guest DJs.

MÚSICA BRASILEIRA:

Rogê (Lapa)
It’s time to dance as singer-songwriter Rogê returns for his weekly show at Lapa’s Carioca de Gema. The lively up-and-coming performer will present his own compositions as well as covers of works by Jorge, Djavan, and Jorge Benjor, among others.

Roda de Samba and Soccer (Football) (Lapa)
Sundays are all about samba and soccer at Lapa’s Leviano bar. Every week beginning at 5PM the venue plays live games on their screens with samba dancers following the matches and the group Samba Di Buteco playing classics of the genre, including works by Arlindo Cruz, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira, among others. DJ Mukato will also spin during the night.

Tonight it’s time for the best of contemporary music and visual arts at Saloon 79 in Botafogo.

Bar Urca (Urca)
If you have never been to Bar Urca on a Sunday afternoon to drink beers and eat salgados while watching the sunset, you are missing a big part of what it means to be a Carioca. This simple establishment on the bay-side has been a hit since 1939.

Mab’s Restaurant and Bar (Copacabana)
This American-owned restaurant and bar on Copacabana Beach is a great place for food and drinks. Additionally, every night Tony Boka is performing live from 8PM until midnight. Boka is known for his varied repertoire that always pleases the crowd.
