Saturday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Kick off your Saturday with a Carnival spirit: the Encontro de Blocos is a great place to start partying early on in the day. Many samba groups will come together in Aterro do Flamengo so you can enjoy the samba music in style.

Maria will be releasing her second studio album tonight. A project is called “Mais uma página…”. Back in 2009 Maria was the newest voice of Brazilian music.

Nuth (Barra da Tijuca)
One of the few venues in Rio with a spacious venue, nice jungle theme, three floors and a pool table. There is also another location in Lagoa so be sure to check them both out.

Stereo Zero (Gávea)
The evening begins with happy hour and full rhythm lounge. As the night progresses, DJs Cobra & José Roberto Mahr, and VJ Isa present new releases and classic remixes of indie rock, pop, new disco, club house and all the variations in between.

Pop ‘n’ Roll (Centro)
As for music, the name of the party is self-explanatory. Espaço Acústica has loads of drink deals and promotions though – the first 100 to arrive will get a free tequila shots. Shots of champagne will also be distributed all night long and two dance floors will be open for your enjoyment.

Bateria do Salgueiro (Lapa)
In the rhythm of Carnival 2012, Lapa 40º, presents the show from the Salgueiro Battery invoked percussionists battery master leads percussion instruments such as chimes, tambourines, deaf, boxes, rattles, cuicas, agogo, reco-recos and tambourines.

Salgueiro Samba School Rehearsal (Andaraí)
One of the most famous of the Grupo Especial (Special Group), Salgueiro will parade down the Sapucaí on Sunday, February 10th, and they will hold rehearsal parties every weekend in the lead-up.

Clube dos Democráticos (Lapa)
Bringing together the best musicians of Rio de Janeiro, Democráticos promises the time if your life. With artists such as Nina Wirtti &; Noites Brasileiras, Os Miltons, and many more. The goal is to present classics of Brazilian music and its roots.

Blue Agave (Copacabana)
Some of the best Mexican food — and the best margarita — in Rio, plus live American and European sports on TV. They also have the original location in Ipanema. This weekend, you can watch the semi-final NFL play-off games here with some delicious food and great beer.
