Thursday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – This holiday’s evening, it’s time for the hottest American funk music with sax player Maceo Parker at Blue Note Rio, at 8PM.
One of the American funk’s founding fathers, Parker became famous for being one of James Brown’s band main members. His sax performance has specially stood out in hits like “Sex Machine” and “I Got You” (I Feel You).
In tonight’s show, Parker will present classics by James Brown and by Maceo & the King’s Men and George Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic, bands of which he has already been part.

Baile do Almeidinha, one of the coolest Brazilian instrumental music parties, is back to Lapa tonight. Musician Hamilton de Holanda and band present dancing renditions from chorinho, samba and jazz music until late in the night. DJ Lencinho plays in the breaks, and singer Fafá de Belém will also participate in the show.
