The Rio Times, Nightlife Guide, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Nightlife, Bars, Clubs, Parties

We have the top three picks for this Sunday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

LIVE:
Johann Sebastian Rio e Guido Sant’Anna @ Theatro Municipal (Centro) – On October 7 the Johann Sebastian Rio Orchestra presents a concert in honor of children’s day with one of the most promising talents of its generation, the violinist Guido Felipe Sant Anna, only 12 years old.

Guido was a finalist at the Menuhin Competition, one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world, which this year happened in Switzerland, and was the only Latin American selected.

The young and talented violinist will perform two pieces with Johann Sebastian Rio Orchestra: Joseph Haydn’s Concerto for Violin and String Orchestra No. 1 in C Major and Night Club 1960 by Astor Piazzolla, as well as pieces by Mendelssohn and a tribute to Mozart, two musical prodigies in their own right.

Tickets are from R$5-R$10 and the show begins at 5PM.

DRINKS:
Meu candidato é um primata @ Macaco Caolho (Copacabana) – This is a crazy combination from one of the best Irish pubs in the city: a live show, deals on burgers, and wonderful drinks offers.

As they announce: ‘We still do not know what will happen this day, but we are already sure that it is better to end the night drinking than discussing politics and making enemies on social networks.’ There’s double servings of caipirinhas and chopp beer until 9PM for people to drown their sorrows, celebrate the victory or just wait for the next 21 days of the election campaign.

Free drinks with every burger ordered. If ‘he’ is sworn in then it’s 25% off everything. There will be distribution of electoral buttons of the only candidate that you respect: the monkey! By posting a picture with #macacomeucandidato, you get a caipirinha on the house.

The night gets going at 7PM and it’s free admission. Live music will be provided by Beto Mendes.

LIVE:
Gabriel Geszti @ Audio Rebel (Botafogo) – The musical world of Gabriel Geszti will be presented with the launch of his new album, ‘Coresz!’ The carioca pianist – son of a Northeastern mother and Hungarian father – combines disperse influences, from Bahia to Mali, with a touch of the street markets of Nepal, the magical universe of Japanese culture and the harmonic inheritance that he received from Central Europe.

The disc is the second of his career – after the debut ‘Confluence’ – and includes a selection of 13 compositions by the artist. The record was made almost entirely live, in October 2014, giving the work a rather organic result with few studio interventions, and making room for improvisation.

In this show besides songs from the album, Coresz Gabriel will present new songs already from his next album. The band is as follows, Gabriel Geszti: Keyboards and Accordion, Antonio Neves: Drums and Trombone, Glauber Seixas: Guitar, Pedro Aune: Bass.

Tickets are R$20 and the event begins at 8PM.

Gabriel Geszti – Visconde de Silva, 55 – Botafogo
