bailebomblackSunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – It’s time for the very best of hip hop, classic funk, 70s flashbacks and charme as the Baile Black Bom party returns for its fifth edition at Praça XV today.

The band Consciencia Tranquila will perform live and DJs Flash and Julio Rodrigues will spin the best of charme and hip hop.

Additionally during the event there will be a fair featuring vendors offering fashion, crafts, books and more. Botacara Produções will also provide visuals during the event.

Live Cinema (Jardim Botânico)
Following his presentation of his newest project “Lumière II” last night at Cine Odeon, German composer, musician, artist, engineer and programmer Robert Henke will discuss his creative process live at Parque Lage today. In addition to his art intstallations, Henke is one of the main creators of the the popular Ableteon Live music software. This will be the final event of the 2015 edition of the Live Cinema festival.

Festival Honk! Rio 2015 (Botafogo)
The free Honk! Rio 2015 festival continues today with its fourth of five days. The festival is one of the major international festivals of brass bands and it is taking place in Rio de Janeiro for the first time this week. Today and tonight, the events will take place at five locations; Quinta da Boa Vista, Teatro Popular Oscar Niemeyer (Niterói), Praça XV, Complexo do Alemão, and Arpoador. Fanfarra Black Clube and Ataque Brasil will perform at Quinta da Boa Vista at 11AM. Beginning at 10AM, Oficina da Sinfônica Ambulante will hold a workshop at the Teatro Popular Oscar Niemeyer in Niterói and groups Sinfônica Ambulante and Environmental Encroachment will follow with live performances at 11AM and 12PM, respectively. The group Mission Delirium will perform at Praça XV beginning at 1PM. Groups Os Biquínis de Ogodô with Sungas de Odara and Hey Ho Brass Band will perform at Complexo do Alemão beginning at 11AM. Finally at Arpoador, the group Orquestra Voadora will perform at 7:30PM followed by RIM BAM BUM at 9PM. Bagunço Móvel will play at 8:30PM and Os Siderais will follow with a performance at 9PM. The group Environmental Encroachment will close the stage with a peformance beginng at 9:30PM.

Baile Black Bom (Centro)
Today the Baile Black Bom party will return to Praça XV with the best of hip hop, charme, and 70s flashbank and classic funk. Band Consciencia Tranquila will perform live and DJs Flash and Julio Rodrigues will spin. Additionally, there will be a black cultural fair with the best of fashion, crafts, literature, and videos.

Big Up! (Praça da Bandeira)
It’s time for the best of Jamaican culture today and tonight as Porto Pirata presents the second edition of the Big Up! party. The event will feature original Jamaican jerk food, art, graffiti, dancing and DJs Nitcho, Bives, Selecta, and Kaja Man of the ISS team spinning the best of dancehall and reggae.

Duo (Gávea)
It’s time once again for the best of house, electro, and pop as the twelve-hour Duo party returns to Gávea’s chic 00 (Zero Zero) club. DJ Dani Vieira will start the party around 5PM by spinning on the deck and DJs Lis Amaral, Pako, and Felipe Marr will follow, spinning inside throughout the night until 5AM Monday morning.

Roda de Samba and Football with Ballet 2 Passistas (Football) (Lapa)
Sundays are all about samba and soccer at Lapa’s Leviano bar. Every week beginning at 5PM the venue plays live games on their screens with a live performance following the matches. Tonight the group Samba Di Buteco will play classic samba including works by Arlindo Cruz, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira, among others. Additionally, DJ Mukato will spin during show intervals.

It’s time to dance as singer-songwriter Rogê returns for his weekly show at Lapa’s Carioca de Gema. The lively performer will present his own compositions as well as covers of works by Jorge, Djavan, and Jorge Benjor, among others.

The Arpex Party returns to Barzin Bar and Restaurant in Ipanema tonight with DJ Daniel Faria spinning funk, house, hip hop and reggaeton and saxophonist Marcelo Cebukin performing live. Additionally caipivodkas will be free until 12AM.

Sambombom @ OMG Lounge (Leblon)
On Sunday nights the OMG Lounge in Leblon is hosting the Sambombom party, a lively a roda da samba that is a great way to end your weekend. Promotions include two caipirinhas for R$25.50. Since opening in March, the OMG Lounge has been attracting both locals and tourists alike. In addition to offering an intimate atmosphere and new varieties of food and drinks, the venue is hosting events on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
