The Rio Times, Nightlife Guide, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Nightlife, Bars, Clubs, Parties

We have the top three picks for this Monday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

LIVE:
Bagunço convida Dom Pescoço @ Banca do André (Centro) – This party in the streets of Rio’s city center will feature the sounds of Dom Pescoço, a band from São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo. They have played the Metropolis program on TV Cultura, the highly publicized SP International Music Week, plus many festivals, and even in the celebration of the Olympic torch for Rio 2016.

They are invited by Bagunço, who since 2013 have developed their multipurpose festive jazz show on the streets and in Brazilian concert halls. In 2016 they released their first album “Chaos, Cosmos and Damião” and realized a first tour in France. In 2017, they made an even bigger second European tour, including festivals like Afrobanana in Cyprus, Bascherdeis in Italy and the Festival of Monastier in France.

Banca do André is a unique newspaper and convenience stand located in Cinelândia, between the National Library and the Federal Justice Cultural Center. This is an event calling for unity and togetherness in these divisive times.

The music should start at 6PM and this event is free.

Caravana Cigana do Blues @ Smoke Lounge (Tijuca) – This is an exciting new project starting in Tijuca’s famous Smoke House. Caravana Cigana do Blues was formed through an encounter between musicians in three bands from the carioca blues scene: Laranjeletric, Sonja and Big Phat Mama.

Made up of Marcus Kenyatta (guitarist), Marco Lacerda (singer and guitarist), Sonja (singer), David Taveira (harmonica) and Eduardo Souto Maior (drums), the group’s formation can vary from three to seven members, depending on the song. Their repertoire covers the classics of Robert Johnson, Son House, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf, and Muddy Waters, among others.

In 2018, the Caravana launched its first EP and has since been invited to participate in the selection for TV Globo’s “Superstar” program. They also participated in the line up of festivals such as Rio Rock Blues Festival (2017), Barra Blues Festival (2017), Aldeia Rock Festival (2018) and also the internationally renowned Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival (2018).

The music starts at around 8PM and there is an suggested artistic cover of R$10.
