We have the top three picks for this Friday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.
PARTY:
Baile do Odisséia @ Teatro Odisséia (Lapa) – Come and see what the nineties in Rio were all about with this night dedicated to the Brazilian sound of that decade, pagode!
Pagode is a style of up-tempo samba which will be blasting out from the speakers along with a peppering of retro funk. And if the music, including a live show from nineties icon Tati Quebra Barraco, wasn’t enough to get you dancing then maybe the open bar will.
Tickets are between R$40 – R$55 and the night begins at 11 PM.
Baile do Odisseia – Avenida Mem de Sá 66 – Lapa
For more information, head to the event page.
LIVE:
Samba nas Ruínas @ Parque das Ruínas (Santa Teresa) – At one of the most beautiful locations in Rio de Janeiro, there will be a “roda da samba” (samba circle) that promises to be the perfect start to the weekend.
The samba group for today is Efun Oguedê Group.
Tickets are between R$20 – R$40 and the night begins at 6 PM.
Samba nas Ruínas – Rua Murtinho Nobre – Santa Teresa

PARTY:
MUG @ Espaço Bella Vista (Glória) – On the shores of Guanabara Bay, come and dance to the rhythms of Brazil with guest DJs Silvio Maranhão, Lili Prohmann and resident DJ Marcelo Paes.
The party lasts until 6 AM. If you keep dancing for long enough you may even be able to witness the sunrise over the city.
Tickets are available from R$10 and the night gets going at 11 PM.
MUG – Av Almirante Silvio de Noronha 301 – Glória

LOUNGES, BARS & PUBS:
Bartman (Flamengo)
This eccentric boteco does everything right. With great Brazilian bar food, excellent beer, and a loyal crowd, Bartman also sets itself apart from the competition with its mad decor of kitschy comic book regalia. Try the carne de sol with fried aipim for a real hearty treat.
Bartman – 9 AM
Rua Buarque de Macedo, 83 – Flamengo – Tel: (21) 2558-6913
Entrance: Free
Casa da Cachaça (Lapa)
This cultural heritage site of Rio de Janeiro was the first cachaçaria to open in the city, back in 1960. And by the looks of things, they’ve been busy ever since, with over 200 cachaças piled up the walls and hanging from the ceiling. The regular caipirinhas here are a great value and pack a punch. For an interesting twist, try a flavored shot, such as the açaí-infused cachaça.
Casa da Cachaça – 4 PM
Av. Mem de Sá, 110A – Lapa – Tel:(21) 2531-7219
Entrance: Free
Imaculada Bar e Galeria (Saúde)
A charming old-world bar that hosts music and art exhibitions while serving excellent food and drinks. Located near both Pedra do Sal and Praça Mauá, they offer a hearty feijoada on Fridays and Saturdays, plus live music on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, including karaoke, samba, and jazz.
Imaculada Bar e Galeria – 11:30 AM
Ladeira do João Homem, 7 – Saúde – Tel: (21) 2283-2747
Entrance: Free
