Friday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – It is the Brazilian Independence Day, and Lapa heats up again as Braza is back with their next edition. This hit new party is held at Catrin, a true new underground venue for serious music lovers. Local crews Botafogo Social Club and Brazilian Wax team up again to bring you the best in breaks, funk and soul, disco, house and more. Special guest DJs for the night include DJ Pachu and Saraiva, plus a special battle set between the BSC and Brazilian Wax DJs.

Alanis Morissette (Barra da Tijuca)
Canadian born singer, songwriter and actress Alanis Morisette returns to Rio at Citibank Hall tonight. Her first international album was the rock-influenced “Jagged Little Pill”, released in 1995 and has sold more than 33 million units globally.

Forro de Gafieira (Lapa)
Circo Voador welcomes Forro de Gafieira to the stage playing a unique blend of forro music. The night will feature Tio Pe de Serra, Trio Virgulino from Sao Paulo, Trio Dona Zefa also from Sao Paulo and DJ Sergio Feijo. Dust off your dancing shoes and be prepared to get down to the sounds of forro.

Braza (Lapa)
Brazilian Wax and the Botafogo Social Club are back with their monthly edition of the hit party Braza. Featuring the best in breaks, booty, funk and soul, disco and house, these parties get grimy and funky. This edition will feature special guests DJ Pachu and DJ Saraiva, along with a special battle set between the Botafogo Social Club DJs and Brazilian Wax. Be sure not too miss this night of great music with a serious vibe. The last two editions have run well into the morning, so be ready.

Supercordas (Arpoador)
Supercordas resurfaces at Studio RJ even more electric and experimental this time with their new album “The Magic Drift Elephants”. Six years after their celebrated album “Green Beings Around”, the carioca band returns to the stage to demonstrate why their first album was considered one of the best Brazilian albums of the decade in 2000.

Nuth (Barra da Tijuca)
The biggest thing to hit the streets of Barra & Lagoa. Two locations with the same game plan to make sure the night never ends for those who attend. A mixture of house, hip hop, and pop, this nightclub is sure to light up the night.

Samba with Danielle Coimbra and Grupo Serrado. Grupo Serrado plays the best of samba and tells a samba storyline that is reminiscent of Rio’s carnaval.

Teresa Cristina e Grupo Semente (Lapa)
Samba surrenders Friday nights to the talent of one of the youngest singers and composers of the genre. Teresa Cristina and Grupo Sementemantém have gained success since their debut seven years ago in Rio.
